A Personal Note
Welcome to Relationship Emergency. This site was the culmination of years of work with clients, witnessing struggles of friends in the community with the universal experience of heartbreak and finally my own experience of divorce. For many reasons people often simply do not have the support they need. The process of healing heartbreak does not have a timeline but the sympathy of others often does. We have all had the friend who we rallied around to support only to find that we run out of patience in listening to the same stories over and over, ruminating over the same questions that have no answer and sometimes witnessing people we care about getting stuck in deep unhappiness, powerlessness and negativity. The answers seem so easy from the outside and sometimes if we have not had the same experience we simply can’t relate. For most of us we have also been on the other side, being the heartbroken and feeling like no one really understands. For many reasons the journey of heartbreak is incredibly personal. It involves intimacy between two people that simply can’t be comprehensively captured by the understanding of others. Add our own personal history, wounds and the ways in which these trigger those around us and we can have some heavy emotional turbulence. As I moved through my own divorce and recovery I experienced all of the above and then some! Suddenly all of my years of coaching and counseling were made even more crystallized with the visceral experience of going through my own divorce. My years of experience, tools from my professional and personal practices came together to facilitate my healing but no one could have told me the irrational emotions, reactions and deeply held core beliefs that would be challenged and unveiled. I had the unique experience of being client and therapist in one working from the inside out. By recording my experiences in my journal and using my life as the laboratory, I had created a system of healing that I could share with others and so I have! I feel grateful to have had the experiences I have had so that I can not only know myself better and appreciate the deep love and joy I now have but to offer support and a system of recovery from a deeply personal and visceral perspective to those I work with.
There will be times where you will not be able to feel your hope for the future but trust that it will return. Be courageous in your vulnerability, welcome in all your wonderfully human emotions even if you feel like a stranger to yourself and trust in life. The best truly is yet to come!
With much love,
